An 82 year old has been hospitalized for 14 days, treated by antibiotics, while no food for 14 days, he is recovering by need less oxygen support, no more sputum, doctor is considering him going to pass away soon because he is not taking any food. He lost his ability to swallow the 5th day in hospital, because he was not allowed to be fed for first few days.
i am surprised to notice that everyone in hospital is considering him the same way, the nurses are not willing to help, telling me strictly that he is dying.
hwo can we get active treatment? Such as nutrients and other help?

Hi Rosejen,
This sounds like a very difficult situation. Is this person a relative or friend of yours?

Food is such an important part of our lives - to keep us healthy, give us energy, to enjoy with our family and friends. It can be very hard when the people we care for are not able to eat and drink. Have you been able to talk with a social worker/counsellor about your questions? You could send a message to the Canadian Virtual Hospice professional team at Ask a Professional.  with your questions if that would be helpful.

Do you know what this person might want if he were able to talk?

I am glad you found us and wrote in.

Kind regards,
Katherine

ps. I see that you posted twice - I have hidden the other post.
