"If someone told me that I would feel comforted and supported from a voice on a page, [from] someone I have never met, I would have been skeptical, but now I realise how it means so much to feel the caring spirit of the human voice as we have here in Virtual Hospice!” ~community member, CarolynMarie
Many of us have found comfort, support, practical help and friendship through the Virtual Hospice community. Sometimes you’ve asked or recommended other places that you have found support - online and in person. These support groups can be a great addition to the friendships and support you’ve come to cherish on Virtual Hospice. Here are 2 examples:
- Your local hospice - Hospices across Canada offer in person support groups for families, teens, children and grief counselling that you can use whether your family member was enrolled in the program or not.
- CancerChatCanada offers professionally led online support groups for Canadians affected by Canada.
You can find more, including bereavement support groups, in our Programs and Services listing.
Sometimes the support offered is time limited for a period of several weeks. And this is where you, the members of the Virtual Hospice community, play such an important role. When people finish their groups, but want to stay connected, they can come to us.
To that end, Virtual Hospice works with organizations like hospice’s across the country, CancerChatCanada, Bereaved Families of Ontario to make sure people know there is continued support in a safe place right here with people ready to welcome them.
Where have you found support programs and would you recommend them to others?
