In this lecture, Dr. Sheldon Solomon will present an overview of terror management theory and research in support of the claim that self-esteem and cultural worldviews function to ameliorate the anxiety associated with the uniquely human awareness of vulnerability and mortality.  Implications of these ideas for medical practice will then be considered.
