Hello Xenia,

Your wonderful note today was and will be such a milestone marker for many more who travel the path to Virtual Hospice.  What a great story, and a great comparison.

You are a thoughtful kind and good person friend, mom, and you were I am sure, a wonderful wife and partner in life.

John was so very fortunate to have you guide him through his last months on earth.
Your efforts mattered...and your continued efforts for caregivers also matters.

Dont stop, dont give up, dont feel discouraged.  You are helping more people than you know.
Hugs, best wishes,
NatR

Good Morning All:

Taking time off from my recupperation and let uou know that I had an accident or something when I was doing water walking in the pool.  Felt a twinge than on Sunday could barely put weight on my foot.

Mondy, kids made me go to ER and had an Xray, apparently I tore the tendons and ligaments around my knee and up part of the thigh.  Was worried I had done some damage to the knee replacement but thank goodness no.  ER dr. called and wants me to have another Xray on Tuesday, must have had an ortho look at the Xray so I await their verdict.

I am not allowed to walk, only on crutches, am too short for that and a wheel chair been using the wheel chair.  Thankfully a freind had come to the mainland from Kelowna and is staying with me as my nurse, actually she came to visit our other friend and is now nursing me.  Lots of fun.

Had some replies to my advocacy and will write about that after I get the computer fixed.  Or a new one this weekend.

All for now.  Off to rest this leg.

Oh My, Xenia,

You wonder how these things happen - it seems to be entirely too easy to pull or tear something in our bodies.

thank goodness you are getting support and that your injuries will mend.
In the meantime - try to relax - and I know that is hard - but you need to take care of you right now.

I hope your next note brings better news....and in the meantime sending you healing thoughts from Ontario...
Best Wishes,
NatR

Greetings from the Boiling West:

Taking time out from my recuperation and heat.  I am finally able to walk with a cane and that was after I took it on myself to take an anti-inflammitroy even though all the doctors told me that because of my age I should not take them.  I had trouble walking and moving my leg as it was so stiff etc.  Last nite I took a naproxene and this am it was a miracle.  I could move my leg, I thought so I lose 5 days of my best of date by taking the pills but I can now move.  Will see my gp sometime next week and have her tell me all the final details after my last xray.

I am looking at the site we are on and see that many of our friends have taken a time out and my selfish self keeps asking and wondering why?  I do not want to loose my friends but am aware that there are other things going on in our lives.  Jimmie, OldBat, Ian and all if things are not going well keep in touch we are still here supporting you.  NatR thanks for keeping in touch.

Had a letter from Dr. Simpson head of CMA (Canadian Medical Association) he thanked me for my advocacy, gave me a lot of info which many of us are aware of re finding care, etc.  Also sent me a copy of the report on Palliative care, etc.  Will put the web page on later for those who would like to read it.  The copy was the basics and the remainder is on web.

It has been so hot here that everyone is hiding in their homes, caves and condos. Never has been this hot before in B.C and it is a killer, literally, firest, etc, so we pray for rain.

Took time out from the ice bags and exercise now I have to rest my leg.  Hope to be dancing next week.  Miss John very much as I am sitting in his lazy boy chair watching the red breasted thrushes sitting on the patio railing, the humming birds at the feeder, etc.  This will go on for a while and am so pleased my friend Doris is my nurse and mentor at this time.  Friends are the backbone of recovery I have thought many times and it has proven to be so in my case with my leg,

Hugs to all.  You are in my thoughts daily.

Xenia

Hi Xenia
Yes it has been quiet lately hasn't it. It's always good to hear your updates and I imagine if people are not able to respond in writing they value your words of caring and support.

Thanks for sharing the information too Xenia - or preparing to share it. The website will be valuable.

Glad to hear friends are there to help you - friends are here too and I am sure will be in touch in time.
Take care Xenia

Dear Xenia:

I am sorry for not writing of late.  AS you susoected, it is not for lack of interest, but more because of other issues demanding my attention.  Our grandaughter has been ill again and I am currently in London, Ontario trying to support my daughter and her family.

It has been a difficult spring for the entire family here.  My daughter and her husband are physically and emotionally exhausted.  The constant anxiety and the physical demands of being with our grandaughter in a small isolation room twenty four hours a day for days on end has left them both on the point of collapse.  I am very worried about them and about the welfare of their family should they come completely undone. It is a very difficult circumstance.  It breaks my heart to see them in such a state of nervous exhaustion.

Anyway, that is our life at the moment.

AS all of us know only to well, there are times when the care givers become the ones most in need of support and assistance.  That is certainly the case for my daughter and her husband at this moment. I am very worried about their wellfare and the life of our grandaughter.  They are preoccupations that jhave distracted me from every other concern.

With affection

Jim

Hello to all of you,

I to have been peroccupied. My husband's health continued to deteriorate and he passed away this last Sunday. The last two weeks were really bad. So now I will reread all that Xenia as written about her journey and take comfort from all you postings.

I am still very much numb. Part of me is releived that he is no longer suffering and the other part is greiving the finality of this very long and lengthy exhausting journey we have been on.

Dear VJ,

I am so, so sorry to hear the news about your husband.  You were (and are) a wonderful wife to him.

The numbness you're feeling is natural - a combination of exhaustion and grief.  Now it's time to take care of you.  The numbness, which can be a blessing, will pass.  Your grief will always be with you, as it should.  But, in time, you will recover enough to recover and enjoy the good memories of your life together.

Rest now, VJ.

I'm offering up thoughts and prayers that sunshine and healing showers will restore you.  There are angels caring for you.  Let them.

Xenia, I just want you to know how much your messages mean to me.  I am so grateful for them.  Life is very hard right now.  But I read everything that you write and marvel at your strength and energy.  The only energy I can dredge up these days is to reply to postings like VJ's.

I am so glad to hear that you are recovering from your accident and embracing life with your unique brand of courage, enthusiasm and empathy.

Bless you,

oldbat
