How do you let others know about Virtual Hospice?
18 avr. 2013, 18 h 11

Our community members are our greatest ambassadors! Many of you have asked me, “How can we let more people know about Virtual Hospice?”

We’ve got a few ideas. For example, you could:

  • Share our brochures and bookmarks.
  • Like our Facebook page and share our posts with your friends.
  • Follow us on Twitter.
  • Share our videos on Vimeo or YouTube.
  • Let me know about any newsletters or organizations who would like me to submit a story about Virtual Hospice.
  • Submit an article yourself about the Discussion Forums to your local paper, relevant newsletter, etc.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper when you see a relevant news story or post a comment online and tell people about Virtual Hospice.
  • Write a blog post about the Virtual Hospice community

Many of you are great writers and having articles written about us in your words are fantastic. But don’t hesitate to let me know if I can help with writing or editing articles, blog posts, letters, etc.

Have you already started spreading the word about Virtual Hospice? Tell us what you did or other suggestions you may have.

The most recent action we've been taking is to partner with other organizations who offer time-limited support groups, such as local hospices, SCHC Hospice and Caregiver Wellness Program and CancerChatCanada, to let them know about the active and welcoming community here on Virtual Hospice.

When their groups are finished, they let people know that they can continue to connect with others online at Virtual Hospice. I know you'll welcome them. Thank you.

I told everyone at my berevement support group about this site Smile .. It's a great way to connect when group is not in session, or during them really lonely nights when you just can't sleep, but you can type your heart out in a safe place with others who understand, listen and give words of encouragement when no one else is around.

Thank you Dar for tellling the people in your bereavement support group about Virtual Hospice. I think that both places to share can be complementary - different, but the same.

Had the leader of the support group heard of Virtual Hospice before? How did you find the bereavement group?

The berevement group had not heard of the online hospice, but he did encourage everyone to write it down and check the site out, i heard about this site from the cancer support, i had called to get peer support and they told me about this site as well. I will continue to inform people about this site as i do find it is a good place when everything else is ot open and you just need to write and get things out, especially in the wee hours of the morning when sleep evades you.

I have long believed that important conversations take place in the 'waiting room' between family members and between patients. Whether that waiting room is in a clinic, a hospital unit or room, an in-person or online support group like this community.

These conversations take place between people who understand what it's like to wait on test results, worry about symptoms, fear the hundreds of unknowns, and need a place to share their frustrations and joys.

What do you think is the best way to let people know who we are and how to take part in the conversations?

Katherine
