Calgary’s annual Mary O’Connor Palliative and Hospice Care Conference offers the opportunity for health care providers from diverse backgrounds to come together to learn about current trends and gain new information regarding palliative care. The focus of this year’s conference is empathy, compassion, and acceptance. Well respected palliative care physician Eric Wasylenko will discuss the hot topic of medically assisted dying in his keynote address. Other sessions will include ethical considerations at end of life care, symptom/disease management options and tools, end of life care in diverse populations, and a discussion of the family’s experience. The conference presentations provide the opportunity for health care professionals to better understand how their empathy, compassion, and acceptance of patients and families in their care will positively impact the dying experience.
