Simone Stenekes works for the Palliative Care Program of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. In this role she focuses on caring for children and youth with advanced illness. As one of the original members of the Canadian Virtual Hospice health care team, Simone has responded to hundreds of questions submitted to Ask a Professional. She is responsible for overseeing pediatric health information on Virtual Hospice.

Simone is involved in local and national research projects in pediatric palliative care and also provides education in her clinical role. Simone began her career working in pediatric oncology and adult palliative care and has literally worked from coast to coast. She has been a clinical nurse specialist with the pediatric palliative care teams at the IWK in Halifax, Nova Scotia and at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Vancouver, British Columbia. Simone’s passion for palliative care began in her final year as a nursing student in her undergraduate degree. She considers it a privilege to care for patients and families of all ages who are faced with life-limiting illness.
