Are we coming close to the end?

My sister was given 8 weeks to live in May for Metastatic breast and colon cancer. She has
just been admitted into hospital with pain. (Same as last time) she hasn't slept in days and is
Constantly changing at night due to extreme night sweats. Is this what the last weeks looked
like for anyone else? Should I be expecting her to call saying it's time for hospice and or
Stating in the hospital?

Just not sure how this generally works.

Hi Eller – thank you for reaching out with your story. I’m so sorry to hear of the circumstances surrounding your sister’s condition.

So much uncertainty can be intertwined with advanced illness. Sometimes it can feel like things are changing from moment to moment. When wondering about how the last weeks of life may go it can be hard to say specifically because each person’s situation will be different and unique to them and their medical circumstances. But there is some general information that can be helpful for people wanting to know perhaps what to expect towards end of life. Here are 3 articles from our website that you might consider reading for more information;

-    How do you know when someone is ready for palliative care?
-    What happens when someone is near death?
-    When Death is Near – information about common physical changes seen in the last days/hours of life
I hope this information is helpful to you.

Warm regards
