Karen went into nursing to work in palliative care. Her clinical experience is in palliative care as a community visiting nurse and in oncology as the Director of Nursing at CancerCare Manitoba and the Director of the WRHA Breast Health Centre. She has recently retired from her position teaching palliative care and leadership to nursing students at the University of Manitoba. Karen is interested in alternative/complementary approaches to symptom management and self-care.  She has a more than 40 year daily yoga and meditation practice that she has incorporated into patient care and into the classroom. She is very interested in self-awareness, building the capacity to be present to suffering, and exploring how we move beyond the managed death.
